Hi, I haven't been on BoxersRule for a long time as I was busy and very happy with Isabelle our rescue. Well, things have changed. About two years ago Isabelle once in a while started to snap at us both when we had visitors; she only went for us not the visitors, so we tried to work out what was wrong. It gradually got worse, she really bit Gunthers hand one day, I had to put a bandage on it. When she would turn on us we would crate her for a little while, when we let her out she seemed to have forgotten what she had done and was her loving self, all wiggles & kisses. You could tell she was going to bite by the look in her eyes, & she would get right in front and face you. Well, to end it all, she went for me the other week and bit my face, she jumped up right from a sit in front of me, I couldn't turn as we were in the hallway, she was on her leash as I was taking her outside. Gunther put her in her crate & drove me to the local hospital where I had 4 stitches put in my face between nose & lip. When we finally came home from the hospital I went to her crate and let her out, she was so loving & happy, I know she didn't remember what had happened. Sadly to say she is no longer with us as we couldn't trust her as we have 2 small children living next door. She went back to the rescue so that she could get checked over by the vet, everything was OK he couldn't find what was causing the attacks. They had Isabelle a couple of days then just as the husband walked by her she went for him. We all believe that there was something making her like that. So that is my sad story, we are really missing her. Gunther wanted another one right away as he missed his walking companion; there were some puppies in te local paper, but I don't see paying $1,200.00 for a pet when there are so many waiting for a home. Hopefully we will be getting one in a few weeks time. I will let you all know when he arrives. But I still miss my sweet Isabelle.

Well, Gordon is fast becoming a Gordy...he's loved very much by foster mum and dad and we're going to hate when he leaves

We have two very good candidates for a forever home but it's still early to say anymore...we'll keep you posted.

We had a session with the dogs from the K9 unit on Tuesday. Two males (narcotic dogs) and 2 females (search and rescue).

We did a variety of excercises still on leash but the instruction was to let the dog be a dog. I was corrected many times (not Gordon). I tend to use my voice a lot to distract him from situations that I think will be dangerous and at the same time I'm not letting him be a dog. It was a short, fast paced session with a couple police guys learning to handle the dogs and me with Gordon.

He was a good boy but he's now rather ignoring the other dogs. The instructor would like to see him exploring more the other dogs. He let himself be sniffed by the girls and the boys, not totally relaxed but no sign of aggression. The instructor was happy with him (maybe not with me).

So this is the weekly update. Keep your fingers crossed for Gordy Gordon.

I have been looking for this bowl for awhile but they have always been for the petite dog -
I finally back tracked after a cur run and spotted at a place I demo at.
They had it - yahooooooo - the bowl looks like a bundt cake pan or flunnel cake pan -
I am hoping this will slow Simon down in his eating, as he doesnt come up for air -
Lately he seems to want to eat 24/7-
I have been given the ok to up his fat a little to hopefully get him on a different brand of food - but no food comes near
this fiber conent - 16.7% fiber and 7% fat -
I was told to put veggies in his food if we changed and the veggies would boost the fiber content.
tough choice but am really hope this bowl will do the trick.

I realized the only way I can walk Lily is to get a easy walk harness. She pulls my husband and me with just leash. Even though she runs around in the yard, she still needs a daily walk, exception for today that feels like it is in the single digits. I ordered it direct, since Petsmart does not carry the M/L size. She is not done growing at 7 months so I wanted something she can use now and still have plenty of room to grow into. I just can't get over how well this thing works, of course, she still tries to pull a little, but you pull to side a bit and she stops. I just need to get her to heel and walk beside me. She is still all over the place. I am thrilled the pulling has stopped. This is definately a good start to walking my girl.

On another note: We went for a walk yesterday & we encountered a loose dog. I went up this street, I know what dog lives where, just by me walking on my own. Well this white german shepherd, is out of yard and comes over to us. Her tail was wagging. I stayed calm and Lily was scared to death. I want her to get used to other dogs and be calm around them and this happens. Very lucky this was a friendly dog and just wanted to sniff her and looked like she wanted to play. When the owner realized she was out of yard, he apologized and brought her back in, said she is very nice dog that wants to play. How would I know that? I was worried of how I would have handled a nasty dog. Thank heavens it turned out well and we continued on with our walk.

Wonderfully exciting news at theDoubleTrouble household !! A while back I was contacted by the lady who runs Boxer Rescue and Adoption in Reston VA (the rescue I adopted Jaimee from) asking me to write "our" story of how we came to rescue Jaimee. Seems as though she had been contacted by a publishing company who is writing a series of books about animal rescue "tails"...feel good kind of stories of the Lost Souls of the animal world that find second chances at life through rescue organizations. Dianne knew of my passion of dog rescue and asked me to write our story and submit it for consideration. I did just that but I never said anything much to anyone as I knew being on the national level that our chances of being selected were pretty slim...inconceivable, I thought.... Well, guess what?? Our story HAS been selected and WILL be published in the book!! The entries were chosen as either a "short" little paragraph blurb or as a full feature with picture included and Jaimee was chosen as one of the dogs for a full feature with her beautiful face for all the world to see..to say that I am a little excited is an understatement. A portion of the books proceeds will of course be donated to rescue organizations and that makes my heart sing!!
