My two are the happiest campers on this farm , there is so much space to run , and yesterday we decided to take them for a walk...... now this is a sugar cane estate and the cane is about 18 inches high , so we walk along a path , without incident , but with some speed cos my two arent used to going for walks , and have to get used to leashes again... Im to scared to let them walk off leash cos I dont know when a monkey , or something isnt going to appear and I can just see us running after dogs through miles and miles of sugar cane fields .. their recall is good , but im not confident that a monkey isnt going to make them forget manners.

They were as good as gold but we took a shortcut through the cane and brilliant me only had sandals on , so I was pretty much dragged through sugar cane ROTFLMAO.gif

They have already gotten used to the staff on the estate and only bark at strangers , the security guy is very impressed with them , this he shows by hand signals , very few of the staff speak any english , only an african language so its great fun trying to communicate .

Miki thankgoodness seems to have lost interest in frogs , i hope this situation is permanent cos i throw up to 15 out every night. She has lost her excess weight and is looking quite trim again , moody tho BangHead.gif maybe she doesnt like the ol lady either ? Monty growls at her if she comes too close to me angel.gif

Of course im not once again on full alert for ticks tantrum2.gif ....

last thing .. that little kitty that lives here ..... I have given the security guy food for her , and she isnt in the slightest bit concerned about the dogs , she just watches them , but she doesnt want to live here no.gif no matter , i can still have her spayed and see that she is properly fed , if she wants to be a bush kitty its fine ....

Carol,

I'm just trying to picture living in a place with monkeys and sugar cane fields and all that you have described. It's beyond my imagination, but I'm fascinated by your descriptions of your life in SA.

Cindy you truly cannot believe how beautiful it is here , very very hot tho , ill take photos once I have offloaded the old soul and can do something without being "glared" at. Soon you will see piccies , in about 3/4 months our view will be ruined tho cos the cane gets to about 8 ft if im not mistaken.

I spotted a crowned Eagle the other day and want to build an "owl" box now the idea with this is you build a certain type of box in your trees and they come and nest there ... I ratehr fancy having owls on my doorstep.

Im also looking for geese .. security in this country remains a challenge , and geese and boxers combined should deter any intruders.

magic is a murdering little so and so BangHead.gif she killed a HUGE praying mantis , i was so cross with her .. cos i like the creepy crawlies.

Sounds like an animal kingdom at your house Carol, it sounds delightful and always interesting ! Pity about the poor praying mantis - but magic must have thought it was great fun !!
Can't wait for your pictures - off load the oldie as soon as you can - I can't wait !
Kato's Mom
I can't wait to see the pics! It sounds absolutely wonderful there. Well except for the mil of course! I don't bother creepy crawley things here either but the dogs do.
