A couple of weeks ago she was lying down on my husband lap and while he was stroking her he noticed a wound inside one of her ears. It looked like a bite and we thought it was the result of rough play with Jester or Poochie. Two mornings later I noticed a new wound in her other ear. This was early in the morning. The old wound wasn't healing and it seemed to be oozing. Following morning, both wounds are oozing. Called the vet on Thursday, but he was coming to my house on Friday so he told me to keep cleaning the wounds.
So, Friday comes, the vet takes a look and asks me: HAVE YOU SEEN ANY BATS AROUND YOUR HOUSE? Of course I freaked out, there are lots of bats here but I never thought they would attack my pets. There is a huge, old tree aprox 100 mts from the house and if you walk down there at dusk you can see a dark cloud of bats flying over your head. The doctor explained that the "oozing" i was noticing in the mornings was more likely the saliva which in the bat's case acts as an anticoagulant. Fascinating stuff if it wasn't for the fact that Queni's involved and for the fear of rabies.
Her rabies shot was scheduled for today
As en epilogue, Queni is now sleeping in the house, altough she hasn't graduated to the bedroom. My husband fears that three boxers on the bed will be too much. She's sleeping on her bed downstairs and she's been such-a-good-girl that every day I'm reminded of how lucky we were the day we found her.
